SolarEdge is an Israeli based inverter company founded in 2006. It is best known for pioneering the concept of a string inverter matched with individual 'DC optimisers' on each solar panel.
Since their beginning they’ve gone from strength to strength, which is heavily reflected by their Market Cap growth. |
These optimisers allow:
- Individual panel monitoring.
- Individual panel optimisation (i.e. shade or dirt on one panel will not affect the other panels like a conventional setup).
- Greater design-flexibility.
- Rapid shutdown of panels in the case of an emergency, ensure all d.c cables are at a safe voltage (not like convertinal panels where the d.c cannot be de-energised).
- More energy over the lifetime of the system.
- A smaller string inverter because the Multi Power Point Tracking is all done at the panel.
- Wide range of Inverters from 3kw -10kw for single phase homes, with an optional 5kw or 6kw inverter with back-up capability (LG Chem compatible) and 5kw - 8kw for three phase homes.
SolarEdge have designed their own app "My SolarEdge Monitoring" as well as a web portal which gives homes and business owners a full overview of the amount of energy being used and generated at any given time. The Portal also features a "Layout" section where the owner can see how good, or bad, each individual panel is doing.
In the case of a faulty panel, SolarEdge's power optimiser logs all the data to your Portal and makes it all that much easier if you ever have to prove you've got a faulty panel.

REC - Solar's Most Trusted
REC – Solar’s Most Trusted, a solar panel manufacturer that started out washing wafers by hand! Since foundation in Norway in 1996, they have established their operations headquarters in Singapore, one of the worlds most reputable manufacturing countries. REC have resourcefully kept all their manufacturing inhouse, making them a vertically integrated company-meaning the major parts of the panel are made inhouse. This ensures there is a smaller chance that contaminants may get into any part of the manufacturing process when transported from warehouse to warehouse. Having such a stringent manufacturing process has led REC to having a very impressive Alpha Series.

LG Chem, operating since 1947, had managed to manage to rank itself as the world’s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturer with over 29,000 employees in South Korea, China and the US. Supplying a wide range of energy storage products for electric vehicles, mobile phones and energy storage systems.

Tesla Energy - Powerwall 2
The Tesla Powerwall lithium battery system from Tesla Energy has made a big impact in the solar world and pushed home energy storage into the mainstream.
The first generation Powerwall released around 6 years ago had a much smaller 6.4kWh capacity and was a high voltage DC coupled battery. In comparison the second generation Powerwall has over double the storage capacity at almost the same price, including an inbuilt inverter/charger.
The Tesla Powerwall is still the only battery system on the market to incorporate liquid cooling which enables it to operate in a wide range of temperatures from -20 to +50 deg (C). Although, like most lithium battery systems it is likely to derate or reduce its output at temperatures above 40 deg (C). Power derating is common for most lithium-ion based batteries, but Tesla's liquid cooling should enable the PW2 to release more heat under high loads and rapid charging which should result in longer life span and better performance at higher temperatures.
